Called the "leine" by the Irish, the chemise started as a simple shirt that was worn under the clothes. In an age where people didn't bathe or launder clothing frequently, it kept body oils and sweat from staining outer clothing. The chemise was usually of cotton or other common material that could be washed more frequently than the more delicate silks of outer garments.

In the Middle Ages, chemises were worn by men and women. As bathing became more commonly practiced, the use of the garment by men has largely disappeared. The descendant of the men's chemise can be found in the modern undershirt that many men still wear beneath their shirts.

Chemises have remained popular with women although not for the original purpose. The modern garment has many purposes, largely depending on the material used to create it. Cotton and satin traditional chemises are still highly used as undergarments for delicate or sheer outer clothing styles. Since these are used under other clothing, they are usually made in colors designed to blend or hide under other fabric colors. Therefore, the majority of the undergarment types are still made in white, cream or black.

Chemise style outer clothing has become in vogue. With the wider choice of fabrics and materials available in modern times, chemises can be created in any combination to suit any woman. From fancy shirts to flirty dresses, the style is fun and comfortable at any age. Plain or embellished, chemises can be seen in any store where fashionable clothing is sold.

When you mention the word, "chemise" to most people, they still think of lingerie in one form or another. This style of lingerie is one of the most widely versatile styles. Depending on the fabrics used, the garment as lingerie can be anywhere from sweet and innocent to ultra-hot and sexy.

Simple t-shirt knit chemises are a lightweight sleepwear option and one of the most comfortable choices. This style can be embellished with ribbon, appliqués, or lace for a fancier look. This is the garment at it's most basic and remains a favorite with women for it's ease and comfort. This type of sleepwear is a good choice for any age.

At the other end of the scale is the sexy teddy style guaranteed to drive men crazy. This can be made from satin for a sweet and flirty look that feels great to wear. It can also be created from anything from sheer lace all the way to buttery soft leather. Each material gives the classic teddy a different look and feel.

The chemise has been in style for hundreds of years and will continue to remain popular. With the huge array of fabric choices and color combinations, you have a look that can carry you through the day or keep you up all night. No other style has the versatility of this piece of lingerie which is why it has stayed a favorite for so long and will remain so in the future.

Tights and stockings are an essential part of every woman's wardrobe. Sheer natural toned tights/pantyhose complement and finish off the perfect office outfit. Sexy stockings spruce up a special dress for a sensual date, and patterned opaques keep you looking funky and stylish without freezing on a winter day!

But tights and stockings were not always as comfortable or accessible as they are today. Hosiery has evolved throughout the ages, and demand and fashion have dictated style, colour and material. As strange as it may seem now, tights and stockings actually originated from men's clothing. Stockings or Hose became widely available in the 16th century with the invention of the knitting machine. They were most commonly made from wool, luxurious versions were available in silk or cotton, and they were worn by men under breeches. It was not until the early 20th century, that women's fashion changed and it became socially acceptable for women to show their legs.

The invention of Nylon in 1939 revolutionised women's undergarments. As tights were not yet invented, stockings were the garment of choice and industrial advances made them widely available, albeit not during the war. Lycra had not yet been added to stockings so there was not much 'give' to them and they did not stretch. As such, they were available in what was known as 'Fully fashioned', meaning different sizes, to follow the shape of the leg.

By the early 60's Lycra was added to stockings, making them more comfortable and a better fit for the wearer. It was also at this time that in California, Allan Gant Senior developed the first 'tights'. Known as 'pantyhose', as derived from the American 'panties' - a term used for knickers, referring to the opaque section at the top, and 'hose' to refer to the stockings. These 'pantyhose', were literally stockings and knickers sewn together. They were designed to eliminate the need for several different layers of undergarments. Pantyhose production was perfected by the mid sixties, and the product became 'seamless'. This coincided with the rise of the mini skirt. Allowing women were to wear tights, that covered the leg, as a alternative to stockings, which would have been exposed under the short skirt fashion of the times. Tights became the new must have product and the sale of stockings dramatically declined.

In the UK, 'tights' is used as a generic name regardless of weight/texture/denier of the material. However, in America the term 'pantyhose' is used to distinguish tights of a 'lighter' denier. Pantyhose refers to tights which are either seamless waist to toe, or have a opaque section at the top. They are usually available in 'nude' or 'natural' shades. Americans use the term 'tights' to refer to thicker, opaque garments, including those of the woolen variety.

Advances in technology and ever changing trends in fashion, have seen a vast array of tights available on the market. Fishnet, peep toe, thigh slimming, tummy controlling and maternity tights are all available, and they can be purchased in every conceivable colour. There has never been a better time in history to wear or purchased the perfect pair of tights!

(Lyra and Ryan were getting ready at Lyras house. Lyra was going through her whole wardrobe trying to find the perfect oufit. Ryan simply wore a Tailor Made Jumper with a rugby split neck under and crepe flower tights with her low boots. Ryan didn't wanna get ready at her house because her parents would make such a big deal out of it since it was her first official date. Lyra was so undesisive it took an hour to pick a ok outfit. They all didn't talk much in the car and if they did Joe would get nervous driving and they all would giggle. Then they pulled up to a small Italian restaurant on the west side of town called Sophie's. They parked the car around back and Joe and Nick ...

The coveted title of 'inventor of Pantyhose' goes to Allen Grant Senior, of Glen Raven Mill, California, in 1959. The inspired idea behind 'pantyhose' was a combination of 'panties', the American term for knickers, and 'hose', referring to hosiery, i.e. stockings. Grant produced these items, which were sewn together, with an opaque nylon top section doubling as knickers, thus eliminating the need to wear additional undergarments. By 1965, the production had been perfected and the garments were now literally 'seamless'. Coincidently, the swinging 60's saw the rise, literally, of the mini-skirt. Women could now wear very short skirts, without the worry of showing off their stocking tops or garter belts. The terms 'Pantyhose' and 'tights' are an Anglo-American point of contention.

In the UK the term 'tights' is used to refer to all 'tights'! A garment that covers your legs from the waist down, encompassing your feet (although recently there has been a renaissance of 'footless tights' for peep hole toe sandals). All tights are not created equal though and, as such, are classified and separated by 'denier'. Denier refers to the thickness of the material, i.e. 10 denier would be light, sheer, see through, whereas 70 denier, would be opaque, thicker and more suitable for winter wear and when one is required to keep warm. The term 'tights' stretches to include even children's woolly tights! In America, 'Pantyhose' refers to what in the UK would be classed as lighter denier, usually up to 40 denier, sheer, transparent tights. Either sheer to waist or often with a opaque knicker-like section at the top. They usually come in natural or nude shades, which means that your legs can look tanned all year round. Pantyhose or sheer tights are often seen as ideal formal work wear. They can compliment any outfit and create the appearance of a more professional finish. In the 90's in particular, Pantyhose or sheer black tights were very popular office wear. Pantyhose and sheer tights can however be extremely susceptible to rips, due to the delicateness of the material.

A handy tip for these 'ladders' (UK) or 'runs' (USA), is to apply some clear nail varnish to stop the ladder spreading further! Americans use the term 'tights' to refer to anything of a heavier material which can also be patterned, or woollen. Tights and Pantyhose are mostly manufactured from nylon or cotton, Lycra is normally included in modern blends to improve fit and comfort. The growth of the industry and the technological developments mean that tights (used in its the generic form) are no longer just to cover your legs, there are now tights that hold you in, hold you up, shape your body, eliminate VPL (visible panty line), that are footless, crotchless, controlling, ribbed and even tights that are caffeinated to reduce cellulite! As fashion dictates, tights now come in every colour and pattern imaginable. Tights have been developed to be tailored to all stages of your life, there are maternity tights, bridal tights, fishnet tights and even glittery tights!

Do I Need To Cure A Bladder Infection-Will It Go Away By Itself?

Bladder infections can be painful and debilitating and many people find that their daily routines are disrupted and frequent sufferers may miss many days off work. It is important to cure a bladder infection fast because if left untreated, in many cases the bacteria will multiply and travel up the ureter into the kidneys and can then become a full-blown kidney infection requiring urgent medical attention to avoid permanent kidney damage.

In all but the mildest of cases, it is wise to take proactive steps to cure a bladder infection. As a rule of thumb I would say if the infection is painful and/or has lasted more than 24 hours you need to be taking action.

Can I Cure A Bladder Infection At Home?

There are various self-help steps you can take to help take the edge off the pain. In most cases, these simple home remedies will not cure a bladder infection altogether but me be helpful in milder cases or until you get hold of a complete cure.

Self Help Steps

* Drink 8 glasses of water daily

* Take a vitamin C supplement to help strengthen the immune system, therefore fighting off the infection

* Use a warm heat pad on the abdomen

* Take a mild painkiller

* Wear only cotton underpants

* Avoid tights and tight fitting clothes

* Drink unsweetened cranberry juice (2 glasses a day)

* Avoid perfumed soaps or shower gels near the vaginal area

* Avoid sugar as this can help bacteria to multiply

* Do not drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks

* Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

Some of the tips to cure a bladder infection given above will give fast relief whereas others are basically "good practice". One recommendation is to take showers rather than baths to prevent water entering the ureter and pushing the infection higher. However, as a long term sufferer when I was in the throes of a really bad attack, one of the only ways I could get any relief was to sit in a warm bath. So, whilst I cannot recommend this from a medical standpoint-it is something I often did when I used to get regular attacks.

Antibiotics To Cure A Bladder Infection?

Antibiotics used to be the first choice of doctors to cure a bladder infection. Nowadays though there is much concern about "antibiotic resistance" where it has been shown that certain bacteria are able to mutate to avoid being killed off and this is happening more and more. The worry is that eventually, there will be very few antibiotics which are effective. In addition to this, many people prefer alternative treatments wherever possible as the side effects from antibiotics can be very unpleasant.

Fortunately, this is a condition which responds well to natural treatments and there is a guaranteed way to cure a bladder infection completely-eradicating th pain and bacteria very quickly-in most cases much faster than antibiotics.
