Do I Need To Cure A Bladder Infection-Will It Go Away By Itself?

Bladder infections can be painful and debilitating and many people find that their daily routines are disrupted and frequent sufferers may miss many days off work. It is important to cure a bladder infection fast because if left untreated, in many cases the bacteria will multiply and travel up the ureter into the kidneys and can then become a full-blown kidney infection requiring urgent medical attention to avoid permanent kidney damage.

In all but the mildest of cases, it is wise to take proactive steps to cure a bladder infection. As a rule of thumb I would say if the infection is painful and/or has lasted more than 24 hours you need to be taking action.

Can I Cure A Bladder Infection At Home?

There are various self-help steps you can take to help take the edge off the pain. In most cases, these simple home remedies will not cure a bladder infection altogether but me be helpful in milder cases or until you get hold of a complete cure.

Self Help Steps

* Drink 8 glasses of water daily

* Take a vitamin C supplement to help strengthen the immune system, therefore fighting off the infection

* Use a warm heat pad on the abdomen

* Take a mild painkiller

* Wear only cotton underpants

* Avoid tights and tight fitting clothes

* Drink unsweetened cranberry juice (2 glasses a day)

* Avoid perfumed soaps or shower gels near the vaginal area

* Avoid sugar as this can help bacteria to multiply

* Do not drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks

* Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

Some of the tips to cure a bladder infection given above will give fast relief whereas others are basically "good practice". One recommendation is to take showers rather than baths to prevent water entering the ureter and pushing the infection higher. However, as a long term sufferer when I was in the throes of a really bad attack, one of the only ways I could get any relief was to sit in a warm bath. So, whilst I cannot recommend this from a medical standpoint-it is something I often did when I used to get regular attacks.

Antibiotics To Cure A Bladder Infection?

Antibiotics used to be the first choice of doctors to cure a bladder infection. Nowadays though there is much concern about "antibiotic resistance" where it has been shown that certain bacteria are able to mutate to avoid being killed off and this is happening more and more. The worry is that eventually, there will be very few antibiotics which are effective. In addition to this, many people prefer alternative treatments wherever possible as the side effects from antibiotics can be very unpleasant.

Fortunately, this is a condition which responds well to natural treatments and there is a guaranteed way to cure a bladder infection completely-eradicating th pain and bacteria very quickly-in most cases much faster than antibiotics.
